OUR PASTOR

DeSean A. Jarrett is the Senior Pastor of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Tulsa, OK. He recognized the call of God on his life early and preached his first sermon at 10 years old.

Aside from his ministerial duties, he is a father and husband.

Sean A. Jarrett serves as the Senior Pastor of New Jerusalem Tulsa, affectionately known as New J, in the North Tulsa, Oklahoma community. Pastor Jarrett’s ability to proclaim the Gospel in a way that honors God’s truth while giving practical guidance on how to apply those truths has led many people to experience love and encounter family at New J. Since the age of 10, Pastor Jarrett has not only had a heart for God’s Word, but he’s also had a heart for God’s people.

His call to ministry has been shaped by a foundational desire to minister to underserved urban communities - a call reminiscent of Luke 4:18-19 when Jesus said “The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” He has walked out his call to empower underserved communities, not only through his work as the Senior Pastor of New Jerusalem Tulsa, but also through his advocacy and partnership with community organizations such as the Margaret Hudson Foundation and the North Tulsa Community Education Task Force where he has served as a board member. His latest effort to empower the underserved North Tulsa community includes his partnership with Habitat for Humanity to establish affordable housing.

Pastor Jarrett is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and is currently pursuing his Masters of Divinity at Phillips Theological Seminary with a designation in Black Church Studies. Sean is married to his college sweetheart, Tiffany, has two daughters, Dasija and Isabella, and has three sons, Daniel, Drake, and Dylan.

Our Beliefs

The Bible

The Bible in its entirety is the inspired Word of God. It shows His will for man’s salvation and is the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

God

There is One God. He is the creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three Manifestations: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. His authority is sovereign and absolute.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is Lord, the only begotten Son of God. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross for our sins according to the scriptures. He arose from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He is now our High Priest and Avocate.

The Holy Spirit –

The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the God Head.  He convicts men of sin.  He regenerates, indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers the believer for godly living and service.

Spiritual Gifts –

Spiritual Gifts are given to all believers at salvation by aid of the Holy Spirit.  We believe that all spiritual gifts are active and available to the church for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry.

Man –

Man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

Salvation –

The shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only those who receive Jesus Christ by faith, are born of the Holy Spirit and become children of God.

The Return of Jesus Christ –

Jesus Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead.  The dead shall be resurrected.  He shall reign forever.

The Church –

The true Church is composed of all such persons, who through saving faith in Jesus Christ, has been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and is united together in the body of Christ of which He is the head.

Water Baptism –

Water baptism by immersion is a public statement of faith, where the new Christian publicly declares that their old sinful nature has died and been buried and their new nature, born of Jesus Christ, is now alive.

Communion –

All Christians need to partake of the communion elements which represent the Lord Jesus’ body and blood. By participating in the Lord’s Supper, we proclaim His death until His return.

Our History

New Jerusalem Baptist Church was founded January 17, 1956 in a home of founding members.  Under the leadership of Reverend J.L. Potter, New Jerusalem went from holding service in a house, to a sanctuary and multipurpose facility built on just over nine acres of land.  In 2004, Reverend Potter retired and Reverend Arice Pittman was installed as our second pastor.

During his tenure, Reverend Pittman acquired more land and continued to make interior improvements to the facility.  Reverend Pittman retired in 2013.

Reverend Clark served as interim Pastor as the search for the next leader of New Jerusalem Baptist Church was held.

In July 2014, Reverend Sean Jarrett of Little Rock, Arkansas was elected our third Pastor.  His vigor, dedication, and humble spirit has infused new life into our church.  We have grown spiritually and numerically.  Renovations to our sanctuary have increased the value restored the beauty, and changed the atmosphere of our church.

We strive to make life with Christ a story of love, family, celebration & connection with other believers. At New Jerusalem Tulsa, this plays out in 4 steps.

1 - DO YOU KNOW JESUS?

The Bible says that God loves you and cares for you, but you and I, all of us, we’re sinners. We’ve broken the laws of God and there’s a penalty for that. The wages, the just penalty of sin, is death. That means that we are separated from God because of our sin.

2 - THE GOOD NEWS!

God loved us too much to leave us separated from him, so He sent his son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was born of a virgin, and somehow in that miraculously he was free from a sinful nature like you and I have. The Bible says also he was tempted in every way just like us, but not one time did he yield to temptation, so he never sinned. He went to the cross, and even though he was the sinless son of God, he died in your place and in my place as an atoning sacrifice to pay our sin debt. He paid a debt he did not owe because we owed a debt we could not pay.

Jesus stayed on the cross until he could say “it is finished!” Your sin debt was paid in full. He was buried to prove that he was really dead, but then on that third day Jesus rose bodily from the grave.

Now he offers you the gift of eternal life.

3 - HOW TO RECEIVE CHRIST

1. Acknowledge that you are a sinner, you’ve broken the laws of God, and you repent of your sin. What does it mean to repent? It means to do a spiritual U-turn with the help of the Holy Spirit. You turn from sin, and you turn to God. It doesn’t mean you’ll never sin again, but it does mean you are tired of it and don’t want to sin.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

2. You believe that Jesus died for your sins, that he paid the price for you, and that Jesus rose from the dead to give you eternal life.

“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

 3. You repent and you believe, and then you receive. You invite Christ to come into your life, to be your lord, and your savior. The moment you call upon his name and receive him as your Savior, He makes you a new creation.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

4 - ARE YOU READY TO RECEIVE CHRIST?

If you’d like to repent of your sin, put your faith in Christ, and call upon his name, then you can pray right now. Just like a pastor would lead a couple in their wedding vows, pray something like this right now.

“Lord Jesus, thank you that you love me. Lord, I know that I’m a sinner and you’re the only Savior. Lord, I repent of my sin. I turn from my sin by the help of your spirit. Lord, I believe that you died on the cross. You have paid my sin debt, and Lord, I believe that you rose from the dead and you are alive. Lord, I receive you right now. Please, Lord Jesus, come into my life and save me, wash me and cleanse me, and help me to live for you for the rest of my life. When I die, take me to heaven to live for you forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

If you sincerely repented of your sin, put your faith in Christ, and called upon his name to save you, the Bible says you’re a Christian. Old things have passed away, new things have come, and the spirit of God has come to live within you

Angels in heaven are rejoicing, and we at Bellevue would love to rejoice with you as well. If you prayed to receive Christ, please let us know. We would love to rejoice with you, and to thank God for what he’s done in your life. We would also like to send you some free materials that will help you get started in the Christian life.
